Last Night We Talked

Last night we talked
and the words stuck like rain on concrete
I told you everything I’ve been hiding
you laughed like it was all fire I was holding
and maybe it was
I told you about the nights I lie awake counting ghosts
you said you know them too, like old friends
we traded secrets like currency, like bullets
our voices cracked against the dark
every pause a wound, every laugh a scar
I could hear the city breathing outside the window
but in there it was just us
just the hum of truth, messy and alive
I wanted to reach through the walls of my chest and hand you pieces of me
pieces I don’t even know I can keep
and you said don’t worry, I’ll take them anyway
and I think I will
I think I finally will
